Former New Canaan manager of Family Britches to visit Chappaqua store

Mark Gust, the former store manager of Family Britches in New Canaan, is making two visits to the fine clothing store in Chappaqua this fall, where he will personally assist his longstanding customers from New Canaan with their wardrobe.

Mark will be at Family Britches in Chappaqua on October 10 and 11 for a trunk show featuring Italian suits and sport coats from Canali. He returns on October 31 and November 1 for an event featuring Corneliani sport coats and sportswear.

After 52 years with Family Britches, including more than 40 years managing the New Canaan store, Mark retired in 2024.

“It has been my  privilege to assist so many New Canaan families over the years,” says Mark. “Although I’ve moved to Pennsylvania to be closer to my family, I enjoy returning to the Chappaqua store each season, where so many of my former customers have stopped by to shop or just to say hello. It’s a great way for me to stay connected to the people of New Canaan.”

When their daughter Jillian and Kevin wanted to be married in Newport, RI, it was an honor and a pleasure to help. Kevin’s family lives in Massachusetts, Jillian’s brother is in San Francisco. 

Family Britches was able to order and alter 9 outfits. Plus a few adjustments to the ladies dresses. 

We can’t wait for the new big family event.

]]> Natalie and I have known each other since she and my daughters competed in the travel soccer teams together.

I have watched as she went off to college and then medical school.

Our special relationship even carried over after she met her future husband.  Natalie even came to the store to let me approve of her choice.  How wonderful did I feel.

Not only was I invited to attend the wedding but the family asked us to “dress” the groom, the father of the bride and their son, in tuxedos and accessories for the wedding.

We look forward to continuing our relationship for forever.

Local teens step up in the fight against childhood brain tumors.
We are Fazl Shaikh and Jacob Ellen, the two co-presidents of the One Life, and we are passionately driven to support Making Headway Foundation’s mission due to our own personal experiences with childhood brain cancer.

We have been motivated by the fact that pediatric cancer research receives only 4% of total federal cancer research funding and a similarly small share of funding from pharmaceutical companies. Since its inception at Scarsdale High School, One Life has raised over $45,000 for Making Headway with the goal of playing some part in fixing this disparity. Most recently, One Life at Middlebury College held a “spina-thon” event where they partnered with the campus’s spinning studio to hold paid classes all day, with all the proceeds going to One Life.
 
Obviously, one small organization is not going to fully solve the gap in cancer research funding, but One Life is confident that our fundraising efforts have helped pediatric cancer patients and their families navigate their disease with Making Headway’s support. We both plan to continue our efforts to fundraise and spread awareness for pediatric central nervous system tumors after graduating from Middlebury College in May 2020.
 
How this started
Fazl’s best friend in middle school, Jack Reyna, tragically passed away from a brain tumor in 2012. Jack and his family received support and services from the Making Headway Foundation throughout his treatment cycle. Jacob was diagnosed with a brain tumor during his freshman year of high school, and was treated at the Hassenfeld Center at NYU, one of the treatment centers Making Headway supports.

The company is headquartered in Florence, Alabama. Its roots are in Mr. Reid’s hometown of Amite, Louisiana.  Billy’s mother owned a women’s boutique shop in his grandmother’s former home.  That influence inspired Billy to pursue the fashion industry.

He had a four year stint with Saks and spent years with Reebok.

His emphasis is on USA manufacturing, proprietary textiles development and high quality construction.

Tailoring Guru

An attorney and his wife happened to be visiting friends in Chappaqua on a recent Saturday. They strolled into our shop. They got to chatting with one of sales associates.   The husband mentioned that only one tailor had been able to fit his clothing but they lost touch. We suggested our tailor was renowned for his “tailoring abilities”.

When introduced to our fitter, the customer could not believe his luck. He had found Munzer, his missing tailoring guru.

He purchased two outfits and has found a new home for his clothing needs.

Retirement Video

A businessman decided to prepare a video for his boss who was retiring. His choice was to lead the employees in a song and dance tribute to their beloved leader.

Our staff laid out multiple outfits for the different scenes, from head to toe. The results were a smashing success.

Senior Class Fashion Show

Byram Hills High School wanted to do their senior class fashion show. Eight young men arrived at the store over a period of three days. We walked them through the options and each selected an outfit they wanted to wear on stage.

Family Britches was happy to continue our support of this annual event.
